This catalogue was published in conjunction with an exhibition that focused on anti-monarchist satirical prints by the greatest French caricaturists of the early 19th century.  The 65 images illustrated share as their common motif Louis Philippe, the “citizen-king” of France, satirized as a pear. Essays explore the compositional and stylistic invention of the pear series, as well as its impact on politics and censorship during the July monarchy.
