Embedded Meaning
Art Museum Galleries
Miriam Niedergang ’17, Student Guide
This tour will explore examples of art depicted within art, and the impact these choices have on us as viewers. Why might an artist depict a statue, tapestry, or even a dance in the background of a painting or another work of art? What can it tell us about history, the artist, or the artist’s culture? Through the practice of close looking, visitors will search for new meaning within selected artworks and reflect on the details that shape their own reactions to these pieces.
