Nazi-Era Works Policy

The Mount Holyoke College Art Museum  participates in the AAM Nazi-Era Provenance Internet Portal Project, which provides a searchable registry of objects in U.S. museum collections that changed hands in Europe during the Nazi-era. There are currently 80 objects listed on the portal.

MHCAM follows guidelines established by the American Alliance of Museums (AAM) that call for research into the provenance of all art objects in U.S. museum collections that:

• Were created before 1946 and acquired after 1932;
• Underwent a change of ownership between 1932 and 1946;
• Were or might reasonably be thought to have been in Continental Europe between those dates.
