A small but growing part of the Museum’s collection, new media acquisitions were bolstered by the formation of the New Media Arts Consortium in 2016. The New Media Arts Consortium is a group of six northeast college and university art museums formed to jointly acquire and share ownership of digital, interactive, and new media works. Our partner museums are the Bowdoin College Museum of Art, the Colby College Museum of Art, the Middlebury College Museum of Art, the Rose Art Museum at Brandeis University, and the Tang Teaching Museum and Art Gallery at Skidmore College. The Consortium’s inaugural acquisition was Tango for Page Turning (2012-13) by South African artist William Kentridge and other important works, such as videos by Lorna Simpson and Ana Mendieta, have been added over the years. The Museum also continues to acquire new media outside of the consortium, including works by Mariam Ghani and Christine Sun Kim, both purchased in 2023.
