According to our Associate Curator Aaron Miller, in 1887 Joseph Allen Skinner married Martha Hubbard and the newlyweds kept a piece of their wedding cake as a memento. More than 100 years later, this mummified piece of cake is one of the 7,000 objects in the collection. #howromantic 🍰 💥FLASHBACK FRIDAY to our fantastic student guide, A’mara Braynen, using Mary Ann Unger’s “Black Heart (Mitosis Series No. 5)” in her Sightlines Tour, “Counter Stories: Art Reframed.” In the coming weeks, we will be sharing student guide Sightlines Tours (via videos and blog posts) on our website!

To celebrate Skinner and his eccentric collection we want to know what is the WEIRDEST and possibly CREEPIEST 👀 😱 👀 object in the collection. Starting at 2pm, check out our Instagram Story to vote in the first round of #skinnerweird matchups! This week we conclude our throwback celebration of MHC’s 2018-19 Leading Woman in the Arts, internationally acclaimed artist Joan Jonas ’58, sponsored by the Weissman Center for Leadership. In October 2018, Jonas ‘58 presented her illuminating lecture on her artistic career and lifelong inspirations, in conjunction with her solo exhibition at the Mount Holyoke College Art Museum.

Watch the lecture on our website and be as mesmerized as the live audience was that special evening (link in bio). Pictured here are Jonas ‘58, MHC President Sonya Stephens, and Harriet (‘58) and Paul Weissman.
