Jump past Instagram images to the footer. Today we say goodbye to Hermes at Rest (just for the winter 😉). Special thanks to the MHC greenhouse staff for lending a helping hand! This week in #teachingwithart our Chuck Close “Self-Portrait Screenprint” (2007) made an appearance for Professor Mara Sabariego and Professor Ken Colodner’s Neuroscience classes. Their lab, titled “An Exploration of Art and the Brain,” deconstructs how we make sense of visual information.

By covering up the screen print and revealing small squares one at a time, students tried to make sense of the larger picture...which was then fully revealed to surprised gasps! 🗣gallery talk FRIDAY 11/15 1:30- 2:30pm for IN THE MAKING: The Mount Holyoke College Printmaking Workshop. After an introduction by Guest Artist in Studio Art Amanda Maciuba, students Sommer Byers ‘21, Joliet Morrill ‘21, Izzy Yiqi Chen ‘21, and Phoebe Pugh ‘21 will discuss some of the prints in the exhibition.

Following the talk, drop by the MHC printmaking studio (3rd floor of the Art Building, Studio 310) to learn more about printing processes and techniques from Amanda Maciuba’s printmaking students. As part of Art Week at MHC, printmaking demonstrations will take place all afternoon from 12:30-4:00pm.
