Letter to Dorothy Blair from Yoshida Tōshi

 This is Yoshida Tōshi’s first letter to Dorothy Blair after his father’s death on April 5, 1950, in which he explains his belated reply and the family situation. Tōshi’s letter implies that Hiroshi intended to respond to Blair’s letter to discuss future exhibitions in America before his death. Tōshi also mentions Blair’s future retirement from the Toledo Museum of Art as well as his younger brother Hodaka’s intention to study art in America. At the end, Tōshi describes the family’s plans for making new prints: “My mother (Fujio) want[s] to make the flower’s prints. Hodaka will be make[ing] the new style, and I will be make[ing] the landscapes and animals.”
