There are many ways to give to the Mount Holyoke College Art Museum.
Every gift makes a difference – from annual support for our continuing operating costs, to named endowments for the care of permanent collection galleries, to funding for new acquisitions and exhibitions, to subsidizing staff positions and educational programming, to underwriting larger Museum initiatives.
All gifts to the Museum are considered gifts to Mount Holyoke College and are tax-deductible to the extent allowed by the law.
Planned Giving & Bequests
Mount Holyoke’s Office of Gift Planning can help you explore all aspects of planned giving, allowing you to best maximize the value of your contribution to MHCAM and the benefits to you.
MHC’s Gift Planning staff can help you or your representatives plan a gift to MHCAM that best serves your financial needs and Mount Holyoke. Whether you are looking for information on gifts that provide income or how to establish a bequest, please contact the Mount Holyoke College Office of Gift Planning at 413.538.2637 or giftplanning@mtholyoke.edu.
Matching Gifts
Many businesses and corporations will match personal gifts to educational institutions made by employees, retirees, and their family members. By taking advantage of a company’s matching gift benefit, you may be able to double or triple the amount of your contribution to MHCAM. To do so, you must obtain the proper matching-gift form from your employer and submit it to MHC’s Office of Development for processing. Contact your company’s personnel office for more information.

Gifts of Securities
When you make a gift of appreciated securities, you help the Mount Holyoke College Art Museum and could receive a double tax benefit—a charitable deduction and avoidance of capital gains tax. Gifts of appreciated securities are tax deductible at full fair-market value if the donor has owned the asset for at least one year. To avoid capital gains taxes, you must provide the securities themselves, not the proceeds of their sale. These gifts may be deducted at fair market value on the date of transfer to the College.

Gifts of Art
Since its founding, the Museum has benefitted from gifts of art from thoughtful and generous donors, both alums and other friends.
If you are interested in proposing a gift of art to MHCAM, please first consult our Collecting Philosophy, which describes the goals and criteria that guide our acquisition program.
If you believe you have an object or objects that support our program, please contact artmuseum@mtholyoke.edu.
Please make sure to include photographs, descriptions of the work/s of art including dimensions, and information regarding the history of ownership. This information is required in order for the work to be considered for acquisition.
The final decision on accepting the gift will come from the Museum’s Acquisitions Committee. A member of staff will reach out to you with the final decision.
If the gift is accepted, the donor may qualify for a considerable tax benefit. While the Museum cannot appraise the object due to conflict of interest laws, the staff may provide a list of qualified appraisers.
Establishing an Endowment
Endowments honor the interests and values of museum supporters with a lasting legacy. Through named endowment gifts, donors can ensure curatorial positions and internships, educational programs, or collections areas will be supported in perpetuity.
For more information, please contact artmuseum@mtholyoke.edu or Senior Philanthropic Advisor Kim Kedziorek at 413.538.2642
Other Giving Options
MHCAM also accept gifts from Donor Advised Funds (DAFs) or Qualified Charitable Distributions (QCDs).
